Game Boy Color
In 1989, the first edition of the worlds most popular portable became available in the US called the Game Boy. Featuring a black and white display, directional pad and two buttons, and a huge selection of games its become an enduring part of gaming history. With each new version that has appeared since its inception popularity has only grown. A smaller version of the Game Boy became available called the Game Boy Pocket and soon after a color version was released known as the Game Boy Color and then the Game Boy Advance. Each system had marked improvements, but the greatest feature for all of the systems was the fact that the games were backwards compatible.
Game Boy Advance
Released in 2001, the Game Boy advance compared technologically to the Super Nintendo. The system required two AA batteries and featured a directional pad, two shoulder, two face and start and select buttons. There are plenty of accessories still in existence for the Game Boy Advance including cases, lights, multiplayer cables and wireless multiplayer adapters. Despite its popularity the Game Boy Advance was criticized for its poorly-lit screen.
Game Boy Advance SP
The Game Boy Advance SP was released in 2003 as an update to the original Advance. The screen is front-lit and much easier to see. It also flips open and closed, protecting the screen from scratches and contains a rechargeable battery pack instead of requiring batteries. |
